Marketing. French.

My name is Holland Hiler and I’m a senior in the Mendoza College of Business studying Marketing and French. I’ve always been passionate about the fashion industry and its impact on culture and society. This past summer, I interned in NYC with a public relations firm specializing in fashion, where I worked on multiple client accounts for major fashion brands reporting press coverage and developing brand strategy. I hope to work in fashion business post-graduation in public relations or marketing and communications. In my personal life, I consider style to be a huge part of my identity — it’s how I express myself creatively on a daily basis, and show my personality and point of view to others. Though the way I encounter fashion in daily life is through the clothes I wear, I believe fashion should be viewed in an artistic and academic sense.

Over the years, I’ve visited multiple fashion exhibitions (such as those featuring Dior and Yves Saint Laurent) that highlight the art of couture construction and design. A few semesters ago, I took a course on the culture of fashion in France, during which we analyzed runway looks (including Thom Browne shows), read fashion theory, and discussed the cultural impact of the fashion industry both historically and in modernity. I have always appreciated Thom Browne’s envelope-pushing approach to fashion, and I’m excited to further explore haute couture as art and as a cultural phenomenon throughout the course of Strong Suits.
